Sightseeing in Hana
One of your first stops at Hotel Hana-Maui should be our Concierge
Desk for information on where to sight-see in the Hana area. Experts
on Hana and the surrounding area, our Concierge staff can provide
information, maps and advice to explore some of the most beautiful
and culturally significant places in Hawai'i.
Hana Town Center
Hana has about 1800 residents. For a glimpse of community life,
stroll through the Town Center and browse the shops. Hana Town Center
is just a five-minute walk from the hotel. The bank, post office,
Hana Ranch Restaurant, florist, Hana Ranch Store and several gift
shops are located here. We also offer complimentary transportation
through the Bell Desk.
Wai'anapanapa State Park
Overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean, this park offers a walk
along the ancient "King's Trail", where one can explore
a legendary fresh-water cave and discover important archeological
sites. You will also find one of Maui's only black-sand beaches.
Hana Bay
Kapueokahi (the lone owl) is commonly referred to as 'Hana Bay'.
It was the major shipping port for the sugar companies in Hana.
Today it is a favorite with local families. This quarter-mile slice
of black and white sand is a great place to swim or stroll. Hana
Bay also offers the best snorkeling in the area. (Complimentary
snorkeling equipment is available at the Concierge Desk.) Picnic
tables and park area are great for an afternoon picnic.
Hana Cultural Center
Located a few minutes' walk from the hotel, the Hana Cultural Center
offers a glimpse back in time. The former one-room courthouse and
jail house a fascinating collection of historical photos, documents
and artifacts. A small gift shop helps support the collections.
Open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Kahanu Garden
Set on a rugged lava coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Kahanu
Garden is home to some of Hawai'i's most precious treasures. Pi'ilanihale,
a heiau or temple, is believed to be the largest man-made, pre-Western-contact
structure in all of Polynesia. Experience the unspoiled beauty of
Hana, and the fascinating culture and history of Hawai'i's people.
A self-guided tour is available Monday through Friday from 10:00
am - 2:00 pm. Offered by the National Tropical Botanical Garden
- Kahanu Garden.
'Ohe'o Gulch at Haleakala National Park
Part of Haleakala National Park but very different from the crater,
'Ohe'o Gulch is approximately 11 miles from Hana town. This National
Park features a series of cascading pools that lead to the ocean.
The Waimoku Hiking Trail is a five-mile round trip that takes you
through a bamboo forest to beautiful Waimoku Falls. Keep in mind
the road up to the park is quite rough. Caution is always advised
when it rains; flash flooding can occur even in light rain. We recommend
you leave early to enjoy 'Ohe'o before all the day-trippers arrive.
